Service Guidelines for Potwin Municipal Residents

  • Curbside Timing and Location: Place carts by 6:00 a.m. on Monday. Setting carts out the night before is recommended. Place the cart at the end of your own driveway, directly adjacent to the street. Residents do not need to move carts to one designated side of the street.
  • Extras: All customers are allowed up to 5 extra trash bags (32 gallon) outside of their trash carts for no additional charge. Any bag over 5 will require bag tags that can be purchased from the city.
  • Accepted Household Waste: Carts are intended for ordinary household trash and municipal solid waste, including bagged food waste, paper products, cardboard, plastics, aluminum and tin cans, glass containers, grass, leaves, and small branches that fit safely within the cart or applicable bag limits. Waste should be secured to reduce litter and windblown material.
  • Hazardous and Prohibited Materials: Hazardous or excluded waste will not be collected. Prohibited materials include construction and demolition debris such as concrete, brick, rock, dirt, asphalt, roofing, drywall, and lumber; medical or infectious waste; radioactive materials; explosives; flammable, corrosive, toxic, or reactive materials; liquid waste; sewage or septic waste; batteries; automotive fluids; pesticides; chemicals; paints and solvents; compressed gas cylinders; tires; appliances containing refrigerants; electronics requiring special handling; and any material prohibited by the disposal facility or applicable law. Residents remain responsible for the safe and lawful handling and disposal of prohibited materials.
  • Large Items and Special Pickups: Items that do not fit safely in the cart are not part of standard weekly collection. Bulky items may be scheduled separately through the City of Potwin, subject to availability and additional charges established by the City. Bulky-item collection is generally limited to four items per week unless Evergreen approves a larger request. Do not place large items at the curb until the pickup has been confirmed
  • Annual Curbside Cleanup: Potwin will continue to receive one annual city-wide curbside cleanup event. The City will announce the date, preparation rules, quantity limits, and accepted materials before the event. Hazardous materials, construction debris, tires, appliances, white goods, and other excluded materials are not accepted unless Evergreen specifically approves them in advance.
  • Missed Pickups and Service Concerns: Call Evergreen customer service at 316-775-6701 for missed pickups, damaged carts, collection questions, or service concerns. Missed pickups caused by Evergreen error will be addressed within one business day when conditions reasonably permit return service. Evergreen may use photographs and route records to document carts that were not set out, were blocked, contained prohibited materials, or exceeded service limits.
  • Holidays and Weather: No collection occurs on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day, or on days when the Butler County Landfill is closed. When a listed holiday affects the service week, collection on or after the holiday will generally move one calendar day later. Severe weather, flooding, ice, unsafe roads, landfill closures, emergencies, or other conditions outside Evergreen's control may delay or temporarily suspend service. Updates may be shared through the Evergreen website, social media, the City, door notices, email, SMS, or phone.
  • Service Changes: Contact the City regarding new service, account termination, cart exchanges, or replacement needs. Carts damaged during normal collection operations will be replaced without a service charge. Fees may apply for theft, misuse, abuse, fire, unauthorized modification, or other damage not caused by normal service.
